The Skincare Routine, Simplified: A Beginner's Guide
Share
Skincare has a reputation for 10-step routines, but here's the secret nobody tells you: most people don't do 10 steps either. A consistent 4-step routine beats an ambitious 10-step one you abandon by Thursday. Here's the simple version.
Step 1: Cleanse (properly)
In the evening, start with an oil cleanser to melt away sunscreen and makeup, then follow with a gentle foam — this is the famous "double cleanse." In the morning, a single gentle cleanse is enough. If you only upgrade one thing in your routine, make it this: clean skin makes everything you apply afterwards work better. Start in our cleansers collection.
Step 2: Tone
Good toners aren't the harsh, stinging astringents you might remember — they're hydrating essences that prep your skin to absorb what comes next. Pat (don't rub) onto damp skin. Toner pads are a brilliant shortcut on lazy days. Browse toners & pads.
Step 3: Treat
This is where you target your specific concern: a PDRN or collagen serum for firmness, niacinamide for dark spots, succinic acid for breakouts. One serum is plenty to start — add a second only once the first is a habit. Find yours in serums & treatments.
Step 4: Moisturize + SPF
Lock everything in with a moisturizer at night, and in the morning always finish with sunscreen — yes, even in winter, and especially under the South African sun. UV exposure is the single biggest cause of premature ageing, which makes SPF the cheapest anti-ageing product you'll ever buy. See sun care.
A note on patch testing
Whenever you try a new product — especially actives like acids or vitamin C — apply a little to your inner forearm for 24–48 hours first. Your skin will thank you.
